AirPods Pro have quickly become one of our favorite pairs of wireless earbuds. They offer truly excellent sound quality, active noise cancelation and a comfortable fit. What's not to love? Unfortunately, it turns out that a small percentage of AirPods Pro units manufactured before October 2020 are experiencing specific sound issues. If your AirPods Pro were made in the affected date range, you can get them replaced at your local Apple store for free. So, how do you know whether your AirPods Pro are affected? Apple has created a web tool to help you determine whether your earbuds are eligible for a free replacement. Simply enter the serial number of your AirPods Pro into the tool and it will tell you whether they are covered by the recall.
What problems are covered?
If you are experiencing either of the two issues mentioned above with your AirPods Pro, you may be eligible for a free replacement. Apple has recognized that a small number of customers have been experiencing either crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise or while talking on the phone. Your AirPods Pro will not be replaced with a new charging case.
How do I know if my AirPods Pro are covered?
If you purchased your AirPods Pro before October 2020, they are definitely covered. Apple has announced that they will be exchanging any AirPods Pros with hearing loss for a new set, no questions asked. This will be easier if you have an iPhone to pair your AirPods Pro with.On your iPhone, go to your “Settings” app.Scroll down to find and tap on “Bluetooth | We recommend trying to take a photo and zooming in if you have trouble reading the small text. If you have an eligible product, it will say “Serial Number: XXXX” followed by “Eligible for Replacement.”

If you're having issues with your AirPods Pro, you may be eligible for a free replacement. Generally, if your AirPods Pro earbuds or the charging case is not covered under warranty, and there's no additional, user-caused damage, you can get a replacement. To start the process, head to Apple's support page and type "AirPods Pro" into the form under the "Tell us what's happening" header. On the next page, click on "Chat" or "Call" under the Contact header. After that, AirPods Pro and issue you replacement earbuds if there's no additional, user-caused damage.
